Roneka Matheny is an Adjunct Professor of both African American Studies and Political Science at the College of Charleston.  A South Carolina native from suburban Summerville, Roneka graduated from Fort Dorchester High School with honors in 2001 and attended Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.  After being displaced by a hurricane, she transferred to Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where she earned her B.A. in International Studies.  She pursued her graduate studies at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, where she earned an M.A. in Political Science.   

After years away from her home, Roneka decided to return to South Carolina in 2008.  She was hired as the first dedicated faculty member in African American Studies at the College of Charleston soon thereafter.  Over the years, she has designed and taught numerous courses, including Introduction to African American Studies, American Government, Hip-Hop: Evolution and Impact, African-American Politics, and African American Studies’ first study abroad program to Barbados in 2012.
